If you love using Mailchimp while running a Shopify store, you might’ve been surprised when both companies announced they would discontinue their partnership.
After a dispute about storing data, the official Mailchimp-plugin for Shopify has been deleted, and store owners are left in the cold.
Bummer.
If you still want to keep using both tools, you’re in luck, as you can set up synchronization between Mailchimp and Shopify.
Let’s dive in.
How to sync your Mailchimp list with your Shopify store
As with all guides, you start by logging in to your store. Click on apps in the sidebar.

Visit the Shopify App Store and search for ‘ShopSync.’ You can also click here to find the app directly. It’s free!

After you’ve installed the app, it will run you through their setup wizard. Select the list you want to sync. Afterward, you want to wait a few hours to make sure everything syncs correctly.
How to add a tag in Mailchimp for Shopify customers
If you love segmenting like me, you probably want to add a tag to everybody who subscribes through Shopify. Doing this, you keep your data clean and easily findable.
Open the ShopSync app and scroll down until you find ‘Shopify Customer Tag Mapper.’ In the field next to this feature, you can add a specific tag such as ‘Shopify Customer,’ It will sync with your list.

How to add double opt-in to your Mailchimp synchronization
After you’ve tagged the customer, make sure to enable ‘double opt-in.’ Not only does it reduce spam, but it’s also a step in the right direction for GDPR compliance.

Is Mailchimp not syncing correctly with Shopify?
Once again, open up the ShopSync app and click on ‘Force Resync.’ This action will fix most issues. After it resyncs, double-check if the problem persists.

Want to move away from Mailchimp?
You could always try out MailerLite. It’s a cheaper alternative of Mailchimp with mostly the same features. It syncs with Shopify through an official app.

You could also opt for Shopify Email – their new marketing service – but that’s still in beta.
Good luck with syncing your Mailchimp list and Shopify Store. If you need any assistance, feel free to leave a comment.
